Do you still use email to communicate with your friends or do you communicate via text messaging and social networking? A recent study shows that over 60% of people throughout the work-week use the internet for social networking. While this may seem to be a lot, it still pales in comparison to email usage.

Independent marketing firm, Ipsos, worked in conjunction with Reuters News and surveyed 24 countries around the world and found that the majority of those in just about every country used the internet for sending and receiving emails. The only exception is Saudi Arabia, where less than half of its population (46%) used email. Hungary (94%), Sweden (92%), Belgium (91%) and Indonesia (91%) are among the top emailing nations.

Social media use is still in its infant stages compared to email, but it has quickly established itself as a communications force in its own right. In less than ten years approximately 61% of US citizens will use social media. In countries where the social media communication is less than average it’s still a very strong minority and growing – 35% in Japan and 42% in Saudi Arabia engage with social media.
