BlackBerry 10 Coming in October

BlackBerry 10 has seen the light of day, but the new smartphones are not available for most people to see or use. Earlier this year we mentioned that Research In Motion (RIM) will be giving prototype BlackBerry 10 smartphones out to almost 2,000 developers who attended the BlackBerry 10 Jam that runs during the annual BlackBerry World Expo in May. Now that those developers have seen the phones it’s time for them to make some cool stuff for us to use on the phone. It’s also time for RIM to start planning for the release of BlackBerry 10 phones to consumers.

While RIM may be ramping up the release of BlackBerry 10 phones they aren’t giving an official release date. Officially they’re saying the new smartphones will be available in the second half of 2012. However, there are numerous rumors that BlackBerry 10 phone release dates will happen in August and that the new phones will be available to consumers in October.

The first BlackBerry 10 mobile phone to be released is rumored to be touch screen only with no keyboard. That’s interesting because the first thing most people think of is a keyboard when they think about a BlackBerry smartphone. If you’re really curious (like we are) to see what the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone will look like there, are photos of a rumored prototype called BlackBerry London.

The first BlackBerry 10 smartphone with a physical QWERTY keyboard is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year. The initial BlackBerry 10 phones are said to look and act very similar to the BlackBerry Playbook tablets.
